Ths study was conducted to investigate the utilization patterns of dental care institutions, the degree of patients¡¯ satisfaction and to obtain information on patient-focused management. The sample subjects of this study consisted of 232 patients who had visited in 3 university dental hospitals and 7 dental clinics located in Seoul. Survey was performed by using self-adrmnistered questionnaires from July 10 to 20 2003. The major statistical methods employed for analysis were frequency, chi-square test, multiple response analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The major results of ths study were as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference in hstiibution of patients between university dental hospitals and dental clinics accordng to marital status. That is, among the patients who used dental care services, more unmarried patients tended to visit university dental hospitals and most manied patients preferred dental clinics. Second, more than 30% of the patients who visited dental care institutions consisted of dental prosthesis. And major factors affecting the patients¡¯ choice using dental care institutions were location, trustworthiness of dentists and recommendation of others. Third, according to the satisfaction analysis concerning the dental care institutions, university dental hospitals scored hlgher than dental clinics with respect to trustworthmess, luridness, and medical equipment. Finally, in order to find out the cause and effect relationshp of patient satisfaction factors and re-utilization intentions, multiple regression analysis was performed. Due to higher satisfaction with parking facilities, treatment level of dentist, mdcal fee, and treatment time, patients preferred to re-utilize university dental hospitals than dental clinics. In conclusion, for the development of dental care institutions, greater attention and efforts should be concentrated on increasing patients¡¯ satisfaction. In particular, the first priority should be given to increase patients¡¯ satisfaction with regard to parking facilities, treatment level of dentist, mdcal fee, and treatment time.
